As Christmas Day is just around the corner there are a few strikes that might cause your Christmas deliveries to arrive a bit later than usual. Ranging from rail strikes to nurse strikes these are just a few of the strikes happening this month so get ready to plan ahead before it is too late.
Rail Strikes:
The Northern Rail has stated that there will be industrial action between the 12th and 18th December causing many disruptions to everyone’s travel plans such as going to college or going shopping for Christmas. The Northern Rail are advising that you ‘DO NOT TRAVEL’ between these dates as there will be major disruption across the whole rail network. Another reason why there is strikes is because the union is in dispute with the government and rail companies about pay, job cuts and changes to terms and conditions. They also say that any pay offer should reflect on the rising cost of living.
Nurse strikes:
From saving lives and taking care of their patients over 100,000 nursing staff from the NHS are going on strike for the first time in it’s 106-year history due to not being paid a professional wage. The average nurse’s wage is £37,823 a year, whereas an NHS doctor earns an average of £47,500 a year. This doesn’t mean that the hospitals across the nation will be shut its only the appointments that you may or may not have booked with the nurse that will possibly be rescheduled to a later date as the NHS at this time of year is busy. The dates that the strikes are happening are on the 15th and 20th December.
Royal mail strikes:
If your parcels have not arrived this Christmas, this is because of the Royal Mail going on strike. The reasoning for this is because of the failure of the 11th-hour talks to resolve a protracted and bitter dispute over pay and conditions. Over 100,000 workers from the Royal Mail are threatening to disrupt deliveries across the UK. But some workers are suggesting that if you have a present that you are thinking of getting for your loved ones or friends, that you should order these 1st class before the 16th of December. Or if you have a special delivery guaranteed to order it before the 21st of December so that you can get the gifts before Christmas Day. The dates of the strikes are the 14th, 15th, 23rd and 24th December 2022.
